The song is a noir‑tinted sea shanty about Captain Doherty, a very wealthy tyrant of a man from down under, based on one of the darker characters in Jack Fringe’s book Tuff Ship. As Doherty circumnavigates Australia on the Mulga, he finally faces a crew he’s never met before – and the chain of command begins to break. This song does his character justice, capturing the storm, the ego, and the reckoning.
